距離2011年1 月「虎媽的戰歌」(Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother)出版近一年了，「虎媽」(Tiger Mother)被英文媒體評為2011年最熱門的辭彙之一，作者蔡美兒亦榮登「時代」(TIME)雜誌評出的2011年「全球最具影響力的百大人物」排行榜。

在過去這段時間裡，朋友說：「你那麼愛批評虎媽教育家長，怎麼不見你寫？」也有朋友說：「等你孩子進了哈佛再寫，否則沒人看！」好像也沒錯，凡是見報的文 章，不管家長是否是虎父母，孩子看來都有一番作為。換句話說，如果孩子沒有豐功偉業，我就是失敗的家長？如果沒有學生參加鋼琴比賽得名，我就是個失敗的老師？這個世界對於「成功」的定義真的是如此狹隘嗎？無論如何還是感謝「虎媽」的出現，讓華人父母們有了一個自省及交流的機會，而今天我也終於動筆了。

Reuse! 12/18 is our first Swap Day! -- Sponsored by BCS PTA.

• At 1:00 pm bring in something you no longer use, but someone else might want, such as video games, movies, CDs, books. A table will be set up in the cafeteria.
• If you have large items, take a picture of it. Write the description and contact information. It will be posted during the swap time.
• Browse the table for anything you want to take home. No need to bring something in to take something home.
• If you brought anything in and it wasn’t picked up, stop by at 3:45 and take it home. Any remaining items will be added in CSC’s next donation.

Due to the October Snow Storm school closing and the conflictof a school day and Chinese New Year's Eve (1/22/2012), we will
modify the Fall 2011 calendar as follows:
1. We will have school on 1/15/2012. (MLK Day)
2. We will NOT have school on 1/22/2012. (This is the Chinese New Year's Eve.)
3. We will have school on 1/29/2012. (as a make-up day for the storm; this will be the last day of Fall semester)

For those families who had made plans on 1/15/2012 and therefore cannot
attend school, please send a note to your classroom teacher so that your
child will NOT be marked absent when considered for Perfect Attendance Award
(one of the end-of-year awards).
